Meet Adam Aamann

Chef and restaurateur Adam Aamann is a leading figure in the renaissance of the Danish open sandwich and the revival of Scandinavian cuisine. His culinary language is rooted in fresh ingredients and the idea that food should be a transportive experience, elevating the traditional Danish lunch table but without affectation.

Alongside his head chefs he works continuously on making sure dining at his restaurants is never predictable: the riffs on classics always contain an element of surprise, from a crunchy-meets-soft consistency to an unexpected hidden herb. The goal is always to have a moment of wonder: this is delicious, but what is it exactly?

This idea has been brought to the forefront of the Botanical Senses soaps and lotion, where each scent represents an atmosphere or memory that gently jolts our senses and carries us somewhere else. A modern alchemist, Aamann is fascinated by scents and flavours that trigger our cerebral cortex and command our attention, widening our aroma horizons in new and interesting ways.

An award-winning chef, Adam Aamann has been immersed in the world of gastronomy since he began as an apprentice in 1992 and believes in solid craftsmanship and making things from scratch, from the flour used for rye bread to the snaps served at the lunch table. Alongside his four restaurants he is a widely published food writer and regular TV host.

About Aamanns Botanical Senses

Our edit of soaps and body lotion brings a chef’s layered sensory language and love of classic ingredients to the world of scent. Created to enhance the experience of Adam Aamann’s gastronomic universe, they are the fragrance parallel to his celebrated cooking: solid craftsmanship and unexpected combinations of flavours and aromatics.

What sets our natural fragrances apart is the use of not only the highest quality essential oils but also CO2 extracts, a method that ensures an extremely high level of fresh and distinct notes – as if you’d just peeled a juicy orange or plucked a twig of thyme. They smell, feel and are natural, distilled into a luxurious, mild product with long mileage that leaves skin smooth and soft.

Aamanns Botanical Senses open up atmospheric scent landscapes that take us somewhere we recognise – a balmy afternoon under a cypress tree in the South of France, memories of lemon-scented Mediterranean holidays – but with a refined fusion of notes that spark our curiosity. Comfortingly recognisable yet original, innovative and uncompromising, just like Adam Aamann’s cooking.

Our story

Aamanns Botanical Senses came to life as a personal project cooked up by chef Adam Aamann. Handmade at first in small batches on the worktop in his kitchen at home, they were intended for the opening of his fourth restaurant. Here, he wanted to offer guests something truly extraordinary: unique scents referencing his world of gastronomy through herbs, spices and flowers used in his kitchen.

With the no-nonsense craftsmanship and inquisitiveness that define his cooking, Aamann experimented with soap making and natural scents made from essential oils, composed as homemade fragranced recipes peppered with surprising notes.

The soaps were placed in the restaurant lavatories to extend the storytelling and aesthetics of his universe, elevating the dining experience with another sensory layer. Prompted by requests from guests a full production beyond Aamann’s handheld assembly line was set in motion. The collection is now made at his father’s factory near the family home on Djursland, Denmark.

With expressive scents that immediately engage your mind, the Botanical Senses make the humble soap and lotion a point of olfactory interest that lingers on your hands with a light yet characterful impression. What remains are miniscule amounts of essential oils and creamy almond oil, making the soap soft and mild enough to also be used for the body.
